Research Resources: Subject Research Guides:
Scholarship, Fellowship, and Funding Information Sources

The Rutgers University Libraries house many sources that can provide information on financing your education, obtaining a fellowship, or winning a grant. The main body of these materials is at the Alexander Library (ALEXANDER), but, as has been noted in this guide, there are also materials available at CAMDEN, DANA, and other Rutgers libraries. Additional materials are accessible online.

This guide lists the locations for the most recent editions of many of the major sources, but additional materials and older editions may be located using IRIS, the Libraries' online catalog. IRIS can also be used to determine the publication date and call number for each title at each of the owning libraries.

To do a general search for materials on this subject, use the IRIS - Advanced Search and enter the subject "scholarships" or the broader term "student aid." You can narrow the results by adding additional terms or by using any of the various Search Limits available on the Advanced Search form. Please visit the Reference Desk in any of the libraries for assistance in searching IRIS and locating materials.

An electronic version of the 6 volume 35th edition, the resource serves as a "guide to thousands of 2- and 4-year schools in the U.S. and Canada. Covers the expected listings and detailed descriptions, degree programs offered, scholarships, distance learning programs, and occupational education programs." Volume 5 covers Scholarships, Fellowships, Grants, & Loans.

College Board: Pay for College - Scholarships & Aid
Includes information on finding scholarships and applying for financial aid, plus a searchable database of scholarships, loans, internships, and other financial aid programs.

College Savings Plan Network
Provides detailed information about more than 500 college savings plans and allows you to compare plans from around the country.

College Scholarships, Colleges, and Online Degrees
From the American Educational Guidance Center, the site links to admissions, scholarship, and financial aid resources.

College Toolkit
Billed as a "one-stop resource for life after high school," the site includes multiple search options for an extensive scholarship database; online application forms; calculators for college savings, value of college, and cost of college; and other features.

Easy to use site with a frequently updated database of scholarships.

FinAid! The SmartStudent Guide to Financial Aid
Extensive information on loans, scholarships, grants and other types of aid, including ROTC and aid for veterans.

FindTuition.com
Includes a scholarship search as well as a student loan search.

Foundation Center
An independent nonprofit information clearinghouse, the site includes a variety of information on the nonprofit sector and the grantseeking process. Some services require registration or a subscription.

A monthly electronic newsletter that gives updates on currently announced programs and sponsored funding

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance
The Catalog is a compendium of Federal programs, projects, services, and activities which provide financial and nonfinancial assistance or benefits to the American public. Includes a search function, suggestions for developing and writing a grant proposal, and links to related sites and additional information.

Funding Education Beyond High School: The Guide to Federal Student Aid
Information on grants, loans, and work-study programs available through the U.S. Department of Education Federal Student Aid office.

Grants.gov
Search active or archived documents by funding opportunity, date, CFDA number, category, funding instrument type, eligibility, or agency to find federal funding opportunities.

NJ Higher Education Student Assistance Authority
Provides financial and informational resources for students to pursue their education beyond high school. Includes tools such as the Tuition Aid Grant Estimator and the College Cost Estimator.

A portal to information on funding education beyond high school.

American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship & Grants
Information on fellowships and grants for research in the humanities and related social sciences at the doctoral and postdoctoral levels.

American Historical Association: Prizes, Awards, and Fellowships
Information on research grants, fellowships, prizes, and awards of interest to historians.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Scholarships
Includes the National Directory of Scholarships, Internships and Fellowships for Latino Youth.

Financial Assistance for Library & Information Studies
Directory of financial assistance for undergraduate and/or graduate education programs in library and information studies.

Fulbright Scholar Program
Fulbright grants are made to U.S. citizens and nationals of other countries for a variety of educational activities, primarily university lecturing, advanced research, graduate study and teaching in elementary and secondary schools.

International Education Financial Aid
A searchable database of grants, scholarships, and loan programs for students wishing to study in a foreign country. Also includes useful links to related sites on international organizations; admission services; university and college listings; international student services; and travel resources.

Smithsonian Opportunities for Research and Study
Information on research grants, fellowships, and other academic appointments in the fields of history, art, and science.

Individual schools or departments may also provide information about scholarships, fellowships, and other types of funding (e.g., School of Environmental and Biological Sciences: Scholarships and Financial Aid). Search the University website to find additional resources.
